- What you are describing is basically the function provided by
- any POP mailer. In particular, Eudora is my favourite mailer. It is
- available in both PC (winsock) and MAC incarnations, and in freeware and
- commercial versions. Current PC free version is 1.4. Available from the
- authors at Qualcomm (ftp.qualcomm.com). In my opinion, one of the best
- POP mailers around. We've converted most of our instutution to it.

- Subject: PC Eudora and Trumpet
-
- If anyone is using Trumpet Winsock (internal SLIP) and Eudora (any version),
- and has solved the following problem, I would REALLY appreciate knowing how
- you did it...
-
- I have Eudora set to check my mail every 30 minutes. When it does so, Trumpet
- fires up and the login script dials and connects and Eudora checks the mail
- fine. Great, but....
-
- Afterwards, Trumpet doesn't hang up the line as long as Eudora is running. I
- have changed the SLIP inactivity timeout to all sorts of values, but it
- doesn't make any difference. As long as Eudora is running, the modem stays
- off-hook. Once I close Eudora, Trumpet waits for 60 seconds (the time
- specified in Demand-Load-Timeout) and hangs up. But I would like to leave
- Eudora running to check my mail occasionally.
-
- Turning on Trumpet's various trace modes shows that Eudora is not making any
- winsock calls during this timeout, it is just sitting there, somehow keeping
- Trumpet from hanging up.
-
- Any suggestions?
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
- Mike Raymer
